Library Services Beyond Walls: Youth Outreach

Did you know that library services go beyond our building’s walls?

We have several staff members dedicated to bringing the library to you! Our outreach team is split up into two departments: adult and youth. Today, we’ll be taking a look at our youth outreach services.

Keep reading to learn more about what our youth outreach team does.

Youth Outreach

Our Youth Outreach team is comprised of Hayley and Brittany; Hayley’s efforts are geared towards preschoolers and school-age kids, and Brittany’s efforts are focused on middle and high-schoolers.

Why is outreach so important? “Some students aren’t able to get to the library often, so it’s important for us to bring elements of the library and literacy to them,” Hayley says. “I love when I see a student at the library after an outreach visit, and they are excited to tell me what they remember about the book we read or the activity we did. It’s really rewarding to know that they enjoyed the activity and took something away from it.”

Something For Everyone

Classroom visits are a common type of outreach for the library. Often, our staff will read books, share felt activities, lead action rhymes and songs, and facilitate a craft. We can also bring some of our fun STEM equipment and allow youth to get hands-on experience with dash and dot robots, ozobots, cubelets, and more.

Our outreach staff also loves when groups visit us! We can arrange to host your class or group in one of our meeting rooms with a lesson or activity, offer behind-the-scenes library tours, and issue student cards.

We are enthusiastic about collaborating with educators and community organizations, and we are always open to attending events and setting up classroom visits. Our Educators page lists all the services we offer and links to forms you can use to request a visit.
