Rising to the (Summer) Challenge

Our Summer Challenge officially ended July 30th and wow, did you work hard! In just eight weeks, you read over 430,000 minutes, completed almost 3,000 activities, and redeemed lots of prizes. 133 of you who read (at least) 28 hours completed the challenge and earned an “All Together Now” pin. Everyone who participated was eligible to earn points, redeem them for prizes, and was included in the grand prize drawing, held yesterday. Who won?

Congrats to our grand prize winners:

  • Delilah Brenneman – Toddler Bundle
  • Kaylen McFarland – Reading Buddies Bundle
  • Bram Best – LEGO Bundle
  • Kent Alexoff-Keele – Art Bundle
  • Haley Marriotti – e-Reader Bundle
  • Sarah Laroche-Knapp – Beverage Bundle
  • Tao Huang – Hiking Bundle

Speaking of prizes, if you have points left to redeem for prizes (or if you’ve saved all your points to get that super soft t-shirt) make sure to come in and claim them before August 11.

Our theme for the summer is All Together Now, and the challenge and many of our events have been about working and collaborating with each other. June and July have been busy, busy months. We kicked it off with ReedFest and kept going with all kinds of group events and activities. Here’s just a sampling of the fun we’ve had and what we learned so far this summer.

Realm of the Reptile and the Cockatoo encounter brought their animals into the library. It was pretty amazing to get up close and touch these reptiles and birds!

Thanks for spending the longest day of the year at our Summer Solstice Party in the park. We made crafts and sun prints, ate food, decorated with chalk and celebrated everything sunny and summer well into the evening light.

The younger library crowd had indoor fun together at Circle Time, Toddler Time and Books & Babies.

Teens kept busy during our weekly Art Studio with all kinds of projects, exploring techniques from painting to clay creations. On your next visit, check out their work, on display in the teen room.

Walking tours took to the streets to investigate historic buildings and events in Ravenna. The trip pictured is the “fitness” walk, at double the distance of our usual historic walks. Another historic walk, Ravenna Hangings, is this Saturday, August 5th.

What has been your favorite summer activity?

Summer fun hasn’t ended with the Challenge. The Tiny Art Show opened today and will be on display through August 30th in our new gallery space. We have an all-ages LEGO building night, an evening of Jeopardy, a visit from the Bubble Lady, and plenty of other good stuff coming your way. While you enjoy the remainder of the summer, we’ll be planning the next challenge, full of activities, reading and prizes. So rest, enjoy, and soak up the remaining summer fun – you’ve earned it!
