Learning New Maneuvers

What’s bright orange, is something every teenager needs, and is now available to borrow at Reed Memorial Library? Traffic Cone Kits, that’s what! Read on to find out more.

If you have a teen learning to drive or who will be getting that learner’s permit soon, we offer our condolences. A lot of us have been there. Second, we offer a word of encouragement, “Hang in there, they’ll get the hang of it.” And third, we’re going to make things a little simpler for you. We can take some of the load off by letting you borrow our Traffic Cone Kits.

We’ve packaged up 5 bright orange heavy duty traffic cones with reflective poles in a wheeled tote that you can check out just like a book. Set it up in the classic parallel parking configuration using our included instruction sheet and measuring tape. Borrow it for up to two weeks and keep your new driver busy practicing their maneuverability for that driver’s test. All you need to provide is the wide open space for them to practice. Oh, and patience, lots of patience.

The kits must be checked out by an adult cardholder (sorry teens, you have to involve an adult). If both of the Traffic Cone Kits are checked out, you may put one on hold. When it’s your turn to pick it up, we’ll notify you. Kits must be picked up and returned at Reed Memorial Library. The kit is too big to return in the bookdrop, so when your driver is all practiced up and you return it, please wheel it in and give it to our staff. It’s ok if you also sigh in relief. We’re here for you.

The library has two Traffic Cone Kits and they will be available very soon, hopefully by week’s end. Watch our social media for the announcement, @ReedMemorialLibrary on Facebook and Instagram. Shoutout to Eric Schlaubach at State Farm Insurance for donating the cones for our kits!

Traffic Cone Kits are the newest addition to our group of “things to borrow.” We have board games, tech toys, cake pans, hotspots, museum passes, and now traffic cones. What’s next?

We have some ideas, but what would YOU like to borrow?
