Even though it feels like summer outside, the leaves are changing color and pumpkins are showing up on porches. Can’t you feel the spooky Halloween season coming? Want to get the most mileage out of October? Plan now to be part of our festive and free fall activities. Keep reading to find out what we’re up to.
First, let’s get messy and carve some pumpkins. Come one, come all, to a tasty pumpkin-carving bash! Watch a fun spooky cartoon while you carve your jack-o’-lantern. We’ll provide up to 15 pumpkins but you can always bring you own or carve with a buddy. Want to wear your costume more than once this season? Dress up and carve your jack-o-lantern in costume if you want. Email Natalia to let her know you’re coming, it’s Tuesday, October 17 at 6 pm.
Is pumpkin carving too (ick) messy for you? 🎃 No worries, we have a Family Halloween Party on Saturday, October 21 from 1 to 3 pm. We’d love it if you brought the WHOLE family but if only part of your family comes, that’s great, too. It’s a party for all ages, with something fun for everyone. Since this is a par-tay, you should get dressed up (please) in your favorite book-inspired costume. Our photographer will be on hand to take photos and preserve those memories. Children can make crafts, play games and activities, like ring toss and Feel Factor. Adults will enjoy our witch’s cauldron candle-making station and a mini-pumpkin painting craft. It’s free, festive, and lots of family fun.
Later in the month, adults can stay late at the library to ghost hunt. Our after-hours event combines local history with paranormal investigation on the premises. Librarian and local historian Kevin Gray will give a lecture on the early history of the library, followed by a demonstration of ghost hunting equipment by paranormal investigator Joanna Pratt. Ghost Hunting at the Library is Friday, October 27th from 6 to 8 pm. Be sure to arrive before we close the doors at 6pm.
We’ll wind up the Halloween Festivities on Saturday, October 28th and it’s all about the treats that day. Our costumed staff will be handing out treats at Ravenna Parks & Recreation’s Drive Thru Trick-or-Treat from 10 am to noon. We have giant stacks of books and goodies ready to hand out. This free event is sponsored by Ravenna Parks & Rec and you must register, so sign up now. Then from 12 to 3 pm, stop by the library during the city’s Merchant trick-or-treat. Show off your costume and pick up a treat (no tricks).
We have lots of Halloween fun coming your way this month. Choose one event or choose them all, it’s sure to be spooktacular!👻🦇🎃🕸️
