Kicking off our first book recommendation of 2024 is Cindy from Tech Services with the high fantasy recommendation Anything with Nothing, edited by Mercedes Lackey. Read all about it in this post!
Anything with Nothing is the seventeenth installment of the annual short story anthology set in the fantastical nation of Valdemar.
The literary chronicling of Valdemar is an extensive one which began in 1994 with Mercedes Lackey’s fantasy novel The Black Gryphon. As she continued writing books in this series, a few years later she also began compiling and editing short story collections set in Valdemar written by other fantasy authors. In the decades since, Valdemar has expanded considerably, and fans have even created an entire Wiki site about it.

Cindy says she enjoyed Anything with Nothing, remarking, “Always good to re-visit Valdemar, whether it’s through one of Lackey’s novels or the annual anthologies.”
If you’re participating in our year-long Bookworm Reading Challenge, you’ll know that this book recommendation is especially fitting because January’s featured genre is fantasy! To learn more about this reading challenge, check it out on Beanstack.
Thanks for the recommendation, Cindy!
