If you’re reading this, you’re probably aware of the mystery-writing legend Agatha Christie, but how many books in her backlog have you read? Kevin from Adult Services is recommending her mystery novel A Pocket Full of Rye. Keep reading to hear more about this classic!
Originally published in 1953, A Pocket Full of Rye still serves as a puzzling mystery to readers.
What’s this murder mystery all about? A Pocket Full of Rye is a part of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple series, in which Miss Marple is an elderly amateur detective. Kevin explains, “An old businessman dies under mysterious circumstances. A cheating wife and a son who is anxious to take over the company are two of the many suspects. Where is Miss Marple? She doesn’t show up until halfway through the book! After Miss Marple’s former housekeeper becomes the second victim, she is anxious to get to the bottom of this.”
We read this book at our last afternoon book discussion group. Nobody was able to solve the mystery.
Kevin, about A Pocket Full of Rye
According to Kevin, this mystery is tough to crack. “Agatha Christie’s skill at leaving clues for us to follow, but at the same time leading us in the wrong direction, leaves readers baffled at who the real killer is,” he says.
Now you have yourself a recommendation and a challenge! Can you figure out the killer?
“If you’re interested in reading more like this, the group meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 pm,” Kevin mentions. “We read Agatha Christie every few months.” The next Mid-Day Mysteries Book Club is Wednesday, May 1, which you can view on our site here.
Thanks for the recommendation, Kevin!
