Scan? Yes You Can

You probably know that you can make copies and print at the library. Did you know that you can also SCAN completely free at the library? Scan anything: photos, documents, maps, drawings; anything on paper that you want to turn into a digital file. Want some details?

Anyone can scan without a login or payment at our printer/copier on the library’s second floor. When you come in to scan, make sure to bring a flash drive or other USB storage device (a scan is a physical file, so you will need somewhere to save it). If you don’t have a flash drive, you can send your scan to your email address and no storage device is needed.

The steps to scan are straightforward. Our friendly staff can walk you through the process, so please ask them for help getting started. Once you’ve made a few scans and know the ropes, you may walk up and scan whatever you wish whenever you need to.

If you have photos or memorabilia that you are hoping to digitize and preserve, you may scan them on the printer/copier or you can use our flatbed scanner in the second-floor computer lab. This flatbed scanner allows you to digitize with a wider range of settings and offers some enhancements that our printer/copiers don’t have. The flatbed scanner is ideal for capturing fine detail and creating a high-quality digital file. It will also scan film negatives and slides, which our copier/printer does not.  If you’re interested in using the flatbed scanner, the way to get started is to stop by the second-floor desk and ask our staff to help. They’ll get you acquainted with the equipment and software. Once you’re trained to use the flatbed scanner, you may drop in and use it anytime. The flatbed scanner, like our printer/copiers, is first-come, first-served and available anytime the library is open.

Whether you have a document that you need to email or photos you’d like to convert to digital copies, scanning at the library is easy and free. Whenever you need it, whatever you need to scan, our equipment is available 7 days a week at no charge to you, no library card needed.
