We installed a new book on the Story Trail today: Nest, by Jorey Hurley, a story about the first year of a bird’s life. The weather is warming, so take those kiddos outside to the park and read the story while they expend energy walking the trail. Not sure what the Story Trail is? Keep reading for details and a spring book list for kids.
The Story Trail is a walking trail at Dix Park, one of the Portage County Park District’s parks in Ravenna township. It’s a short walking trail, just 0.16 miles in length – perfect for little legs (and for older folks). From start to finish, you can read a story on display boards along the trail. Each season we install a new book on the trail, to complement nature’s changes. When you finish the story, make sure to explore the nature play space for maximum fun.

If you read Nest on the Story Trail and want to find more spring-themed books for young readers, our friendly staff made a list. Check out these titles to read with your little ones as you watch the new season unfold. You can click on a book to see it in our catalog and put it on hold if you like. Happy spring reading!
