A few months ago, we reminded you that with SearchOhio, you have free access to over 16 million books, audiobooks, movies, and music from public libraries across the state. If you’re using SearchOhio or its academic counterpart, OhioLINK, there’s good news and bad news.
Good news: the system that makes these two services possible is getting a huge upgrade which will make it more efficient and expand services. It also doesn’t cost you or our library a penny.
Bad news: get ready for a service interruption this summer while they install the improved system.
A major upgrade to these systems will take place on these dates:
- May 23-October 27 – You will not be able to borrow or renew items from OhioLINK collections.
- August 1-October 27 – You will not be able to borrow or renew items from SearchOhio collections. (You can return items and pay fines/fees as usual.)
What are the benefits?
- Ability to expand the number of libraries participating in the future
- Simplified user experience
- Improved library collaboration and more efficient operations
- No development costs to our library
- Easier way for you to discover resources and explore new content
Last year, Ohio libraries shared more than 6 million items with each other through OhioLINK and SearchOhio. “We are looking forward to the much improved experience to support our staff and patrons.” said Amy Young, Reed Memorial Library Director.
