Get your pirate hat, find your sea legs and join us at our annual kickoff to summer, next Friday, June 6th, 5pm to 8pm. We’ll transform Ravenna City Park into a Treasure Island getaway for the evening with live music, games, activities, a photo booth, food trucks, a pirate costume contest and much more.
We’re teaming up with Ravenna Parks & Rec again for another night of free, family fun. You can dig for buried treasure, make your own eyepatch, get the group together for a photo, compete in the seahorse race and make some island art. Will Captain Jack Sparrow be there? Maybe – we’ve heard he’ll captain of the pirate ship hayride!
The Walk the Plank Costume Contest starts at 6:30 pm. There is a category for children, adults, families, and pets, and an award for each category. You’ll need to register, either online or first thing when you arrive at the park. Sign up and see all the rules here.
While you’re there, sign up the family for your library’s summer challenge. It’s an island-hopping map full of fun and treasure. Just complete eight hours of reading and eight activities to finish the challenge and claim your treasure!
When you’re hungry from the games and activities, get great food from the Weiner Guy, Papa Junes BBQ, Lugapha’s Smoked BBQ, and Zonuts and Lattes food trucks. We’ll also be serving up free snow cones for kids again, courtesy of your library.
Admission to the event and all activities are free. Limited parking on site, additional parking at 832 W Main St. (St. Gobain building) at West Park Elementary, 1071 Jones Avenue, and in Parks & Rec’s future park (the field across from the Big Dog Saloon 432 West Highland Street).
Get yer pirate gear, learn some of the lingo, dust off that hat and we’ll see you at Treasure Island. Savvy?
