The Best [free] Dress

It’s time to clean out your closet and we’re here to help. Now is the perfect time to clear out and pass on those fancy dresses and accessories you know you’ll never wear again. We’ll take them off your hands and best of all, give them a chance to get adopted by a teen who needs one for prom. Read on for details.

Let’s face it—prom is expensive—for the parents and the teens. The formal dance is a fun rite of passage for most high schoolers, but realistically, the cost can keep them from participating. With your help, we want to eliminate some of that expense by hosting a free prom dress shop. At the library’s prom dress shop, any teen can come in and find a dress at no cost.

Last week, we started taking donations of gently used formal dresses. We’ll take as many donations as we can until right before the shopping day on Saturday, April 4th. Donations should be clean and in good condition. You can bring dresses into the library anytime we’re open and drop them off at the first-floor desk. If you are unsure about an item of clothing, please give us a call. Accessories are also welcome. There’s a teen out there that would love to have a sparkly red handbag to match the sparkly red dress you’re donating,

For teens, Prom Dress Shopping Day is Saturday, April 4, from 10:00 AM–4:00 PM. Teens do not have to donate clothing in order to pick out a free dress and they can be attend any local school system. It’s also not limited to prom—if teens have a “spring formal” or other formal occasion coming up, we hope they shop here first. Once the shopping is all done, if any dresses remain, we will donate them to a charity organization.

What are you waiting for? Go deep into that closet. Find those dresses and give them a new chance at life and a turn on the dance floor this prom season.
