Come one, come all! We are kicking off the summer with ReedFest, an ocean-themed after-hours celebration at Ravenna City Park on June 3, 2022. In conjunction with Ravenna Parks and Recreations’ Summer Celebration, we will be participating in this community event from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

So, what is ReedFest? Planned by the Reed Memorial Library Events Committee, ReedFest will celebrate the beginning of our summer reading challenge and provide a family-friendly community-wide event for all to enjoy.

Rebecca, our Outreach Coordinator and a member of the Events Committee, explains:

At the library, summer is a big deal. We work hard at our summer reading programs and take advantage of summer school breaks to ramp up our events, especially for kids and families. The idea with ReedFest was to have a giant kickoff to summer, block-party style. We were planning to have our first annual ReedFest in 2020, but the pandemic put a large halt to it. We’re really, really glad that it’s finally going to happen.

We are also super excited for the partnership with Ravenna Parks & Recreation’s Summer Celebration. Since both of our events are a kickoff to summer for kids and families, it’s a no-brainer combination. For everyone in the community, it means double the fun, too! City Park is a great location with plenty of room to spread out and accommodate lots of people. We hope to pack out the park and make ReedFest an annual library event.

Entrance and activities are free to all ages. We will offer activities, games, and crafts, followed by a movie at dusk. Food trucks will be providing concessions for purchase.

“What I’m most excited about is partnering with Ravenna Parks and Rec, and that these two events will be a first for the City,” says Tesa, our Public Services Supervisor and member of the Events Committee. “It should be a fun and exciting night with so many activities for families to participate in. We will have some great activities for everyone, like yard games, crafts, a balloon twister, and families can even sign up for library cards and summer reading. It will be a fun night for all!”
