Great News! (But where can I park?)

The mild weather prediction for winter held true and this means that soon you’ll see work begin on our landscape renovation. Enviroscapes, a company in Louisville, is the contractor performing the work. They’re ready to go and have set mid-February as a starting date, June for completion.

It’s exciting to see this plan finally come to life! Imagine: a new parking lot, new plantings, functional landscaping, and an outdoor pavilion for events and programs. We’re going to let our excitement carry us along through the temporary disruptions. We hope you’ll persevere with us.

Parking will be the most difficult disruption. The old parking lot (which over a year ago we explained is just falling apart), will be completely torn up while it’s reconfigured and rebuilt. This won’t happen immediately but it will be soon and we want you to be prepared. Good news: the drive-thru will remain open during construction with the exception of one or two days prior to the major parking lot work.

So where can you park once our lot is off-limits?  We’ve got some options. A couple are close and a couple are a bit further out. On this map (also pictured below) you can see areas that will allow library parking.

Handicapped Parking (red)

We will move our designated handicapped parking across from the drive-thru and we will change the signs on these spaces to reflect this temporary change.

Anytime Parking (blue)

The public parking spots on Main Street in front of the library and on the opposite side are available to anyone, anytime. Some of the adjacent business owners have graciously allowed library users to use some spaces in their lots while we are under construction. We appreciate the owners giving permission for use and ask that you respect their property by only parking in the spaces designated for library use. If those designated spots are full, please park elsewhere. You may also use the parallel parking spaces along Clinton Street (next to the old RHS location).

Nights & Weekends (yellow)

On evenings and weekends, if you cannot find a spot in any of the other locations, or if you don’t mind a short walk, there is a large public parking lot across Main Street.

How to choose a space?

When you choose where to park, please think about others. Can you easily walk a little further? Then even if those nice, close spots are open, please save them for those who may have mobility issues and for parents with small children. With a little patience, goodwill, and looking out for each other, we’ll make this temporary change go smoothly and quickly. Remember, keep your eyes on the prize – a new, smooth parking lot; the outdoor pavilion; seating areas; and a beautified, functional landscape! What new feature are you most excited about?
